Sir:-
With reference to my letter of yesterday's date No. 11974, respecting the reported sale of certain steam ships to Japanese owners, I am directed by the Commissioners of Customs to state, for the information of the Secretary of State, that it is now reported that the Steamship "Baron Cawdor" 3191.71 tons gross, 2053.24 tons net, has been sold to the Japanese by the Hogarth Shipping Company of 70 Great Clyde Street, Glasgow for £20,000. On enquiry it appears that no intimation of any sale has been received by the Registrar of Shipping at Ardrossan the Port of Registry; and that the vessel left Durban for Hong Kong on the 30th ultimo.
